MUSIC MAGAZINE: Research Rationale

My target audience are teenagers aged 15-19 and as I attend a sixth form I have easy access to my target audience in school which is beneficial for me to do surveys as I would have a variety of ages to ask from which also wouldn't be biased. I would result in getting more accurate results due to the fact that I have a wider range of audience around my community who fit into my target group too. I'm using more older teenagers for my research as the style of my magazine will best suit them and my targeted age group are more mature and aware of their music taste by now so I can seek further information to guide my research and my final magazine. The main reason why I chose this age range was because previously from other research I did, I discovered that the genre 'POP' really was admired by teenagers and many were inspired by 'POP' artists.

I would be conducting quantitative research where I will be creating questionnaires and putting them into graphs, tally charts etc where I can see statistics and accurate research to the final results formed. My questions asked would be varied and provide me a good amount of research to conduct final decisions for my magazine. I would be more acknowledged to the type of magazines my target group will purchase and work based on their feedback. I would need a lot of opinions to gather my answers together as having more people answer your questions is better than less.

For qualitative research I would be recording 2-3 peers from the sixth form I attend and collect detailed opinions on magazines. This will allow me to ask in depth questions and get fully worded replies from my peers. I would need a camera for this and I will interview me peers for more tips and ideas for my final magazine. With the quantitative research I would need the internet and this is where technological convergence comes in where I could use a variety of social media to get opinions through.

This research will end up giving me a lot more opinions about what my target audience expect and what I need to add in my magazine for people to consume my product. This research also will benefit me to a successful, aesthetically pleasing magazine.
